The passenger's side wasn't nearly as bad as the driver's side. There were only a few places where the windshield washer fluid line had rubbed through the paint causing some surface rust. The cruddy area at the bottom of the shock tower looks like rust, but it's really just dirt (undercoating?) which came right off with a little elbow grease & a wet rag.

Item or interest: Where the battery tray would reside in a V8 car - the holes where there for the tray, but they were covered with silver duct tape which (I assume) was painted along with the rest of the engine compartment on the assembly line. I will be recreating this feature when I repaint the engine bay.
